Angel and I talk about the archetype of the warrior mystic, an individual who has integrated the creative and the intellect as well as the qualities of the warrior. Angel discusses chivalry and virtue, the need to nurture one’s genius, humility as a necessary condition for mastery, and why more generalists are needed to help us see the world through different lenses and make connections specialists cannot see.

A New Translation of Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy with Eric Purdue

In this episode, I speak with Eric Purdue, translator of Heinrich Cornelius Agrippa’s Three Books of Occult Philosophy – the first new translation in over 350 years. Eric discusses the life of Agrippa, the historical context of Agrippa’s work, the meaning of occult philosophy and its relation to magic, philosophy, and Christian theology. Eric also explains why a new translation of the Three Books was needed, how he tracked down nearly all of Agrippa’s sources, and the relevance of reading Agrippa now, especially in light of the current magical resurgence.

Psychedelic HIstory with Thomas Hatsis

In this episode, I speak with Thomas Hatsis, psychedelic historian and author of several books on the use of entheogens throughout history (The Witches' Ointment, Psychedelic Mystery Traditions, and LSD The Wonder Child: The Golden Age of Psychedelic Research). Tom and I discuss the the importance of maintaining historical methodologies and integrity when writing psychedelic history. We talk about the use of entheogens in the ancient world and medieval period, especially their possible use in the Eleusinian and Dionisian mysteries, and in the much maligned witches’ ointment. We also discuss where the psychedelic movement is heading and whether the psychedelic community can avoid the mistakes of the past.
